Florida is known for its year-round heat and humidity, which makes it a haven for boaters and  beachgoers. However, living in year-round heat and humidity can also present certain challenges- the state definitely gets its fair share of storms, moreover, so homeowners certainly don’t want to leave this job longer than they absolutely have to. So when is the best time to get your roof replaced? Considerations regarding the cost of materials, availability of reliable contractors, temperature and weather conditions will all play a significant role in dictating the best times of year in order to replace your roof. While homeowners can get the work done any time of year they want to, there are still optimal seasons and less optimal seasons for scheduling a roofing job. TruGrit Roofing is here to assist in your roofing decisions and discuss which seasons are best for homeowners to schedule their roofing jobs.

First of all, let’s talk about which seasons are the least optimal for getting your roof replaced. In Florida, it is probably best to avoid spring and summer when it comes to replacing your roof. Rain is a large obstacle for replacing your roof. While humidity may not make a difference and you can work around a light drizzle, the majority of contractors (including us at TruGrit Roofing) won’t work on your roof when it is raining heavily. This is due mostly to safety concerns for our laborers, but also to take care of your home. Installing roofing components in a rainy environment can trap moisture in the decking and under the membrane, preventing shingles from properly adhering and increasing the possibility of leaks. While in Florida it can rain year-round, you should still try to avoid replacing your roof during the rainy spring seasons. During the rainy spring seasons, rains can pop up from nowhere and disturb your roofing process. Summer months in Florida are also not a prime time, as the very high temperatures can soften common roofing materials such as asphalt shingles, and in their softened state they can be more difficult to install and are also more vulnerable to scuffing from foot traffic on the roof tiles during the installation process.

The best time to have your roof replaced is during fall or winter, as though these seasons are vulnerable to hurricanes, inclement weather due to hurricanes or tropical storms are generally easier to work around and predict than the intermittent downpours of the rainy spring and summer. Getting your roof work done in the fall or winter months will probably give you a better chance of clear weather so that contractors like TruGrit Roofing can get the work done swiftly and easily. Moreover, you also need to keep temperature in mind- roofs have to go through a process called thermal sealing, which helps to form the watertight barrier keeping the inside of your home dry. In Florida, the winters are usually mild enough so that you can avoid the extreme heat of summer and wetness of the rainy months, while being warm enough for the barrier to form.
